Do you want to study in Canada in 2027? Then you need to act fast. January 2027 applications have already closed, May 2027 deadlines are closing now and September 2027 applications are open.
Applications for September 2027 are already open at many Canadian universities and colleges. Some scholarship deadlines close before the end of 2026. Seats and study permits are capped, and the strongest programs fill first.
The good news? Students who apply on time, choose the right program and submit a clean, well-documented file are still getting approved. At WEMS, we have shared several Canadian study permit success stories in the last few weeks alone.
This guide explains why Bangladeshi students should apply now for study in Canada 2027, what has changed and what the latest data shows.
Last updated: 28 October 2026. Canadian immigration rules change often. Always check the latest IRCC guidance or talk to a WEMS counsellor before you apply.
Why You Should Apply Now for Canada 2027
Waiting until 2027 to apply for a 2027 intake is one of the most common mistakes we see. Here is why applying now gives you a real advantage.
- Deadlines are already running. UBC’s main deadline for September 2027 undergraduate entry is 15 January 2027 (UBC). Ontario colleges opened Fall 2027 applications on 26 September 2026, with an equal consideration date of 1 February 2027 for competitive programs (OCAS). For May 2027, UBC Okanagan’s Master of Management closes on 15 December 2026.
- Scholarships reward early applicants. International students who want to be considered for UBC’s International Scholars awards had to apply by 15 November 2026. Many Canadian scholarships have early deadlines, so late applicants can miss them even when they get admission.
- Seats and permits are limited. Canada has capped study permits. The target for new international students is about 150,000 in 2027, down from 155,000 in 2026. Popular programs and PAL/TAL spaces can fill before the official deadline.
- An early offer gives you time for the study permit. After you accept your offer, you may need a PAL/TAL, then your study permit application, biometrics and processing. Applying now means you are not racing the clock in summer 2027.
- You have time to fix problems. A missing document, a low English band or a weak bank statement can be fixed calmly when you start early. Rushed files are more likely to contain the mistakes that lead to refusals.
In short: apply for admission now, then use the months ahead to build a strong study permit file.
Canada’s Latest Study Permit Situation (October 2026)
Approval rates are recovering, but from a low base
IRCC does not publish a single headline approval rate. However, two industry analyses of IRCC data show the same trend for new post-secondary study permits:
- From January to April 2026, about 35% to 36% of decided applications were approved. In the same period of 2025, the figure was about 26% (ApplyBoard, BorderPass).
- In April 2026 alone, the approval rate reached about 42%.
- At the same time, the number of decisions fell sharply, from 69,305 in January to April 2025 to 39,245 in the same period of 2026.
So what does this mean? The percentage of decided applications that were approved went up, but far fewer students applied and fewer permits were issued overall. About two out of three decided applications were still refused. We could not find a published Bangladesh-specific approval rate, so we don’t quote one here.
The honest takeaway: the trend is moving in a better direction, but no one can promise you a higher chance of approval in 2027. A strong, well-prepared application matters more than ever.
WEMS students: more than 80% approved in September and October 2026
Our own results tell a stronger story. Based on WEMS’s internal case records, more than 80% of the Canadian study permit decisions our students received in September and October 2026 were approvals. For comparison, the latest published national analysis shows about 35–36% of decided new post-secondary applications approved in early 2026.
Why the difference? We put every file through careful program selection, financial review and document checks before it is submitted. Please note that this figure covers WEMS students only, over a two-month period, and past results do not guarantee any future decision.
Fewer places under the national cap
Canada plans to issue up to 408,000 study permits in 2026. This includes about 155,000 for new international students (IRCC). Canada’s immigration levels plan sets a notional target of 150,000 new international students for 2027 (CIC News). Places are limited, so early applicants have more choice.
Higher proof of funds
For study permit applications made on or after 1 September 2026, a single applicant outside Quebec must show at least CAD 23,448 for living costs. This is in addition to first-year tuition and travel costs (IRCC). If a family member comes with you, the amount rises; for two people, it is CAD 29,192.
PAL/TAL: who needs one and who doesn’t
Most undergraduate, diploma and college applicants need a PAL/TAL, which your institution arranges after you accept your offer. Since 1 January 2026, these students are exempt (IRCC):
- Master’s and doctoral students at public designated learning institutions (DLIs)
- Primary and secondary school (K–12) students
- Students extending their permit at the same institution and the same level of study
- Certain priority groups set by the Government of Canada
This is one reason many Bangladeshi graduates are now looking at master’s programs at public Canadian universities.
Real Student Visa Success Stories from WEMS
WEMS has recently been sharing Canadian study permit success stories on its official social media channels. For students planning to study in Canada in 2027, these real-world examples offer an opportunity to learn more about the student journeys and preparation behind successful applications.
Here are some recent examples. Each detail below comes from the original post, so you can check it yourself.
- Md Imtiaj Islam – University of British Columbia (26 October 2026). Imtiaj secured his study permit for a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Arts at UBC. His offer came with a 90% scholarship and a graduate assistantship of about CAD 29,600, and he was approved together with his spouse. See the post.
- Sayeda Muntaha Ferdous – Laurentian University (21 October 2026). Sayeda received her Canadian student visa to study at Laurentian University, with her spouse accompanying her. See the post.
- Two visas, one family (13 October 2026). One of our students received a Canada study permit, and the spouse’s application was approved alongside it. See the post.
- Niaz Arefin – Algoma University (8 October 2026). After a profile review, Niaz chose to apply with a GIC. His study permit for the Master of Global Business and Economics program was approved within 17 days, and his spouse’s visa was also approved. Processing times vary from case to case, so treat this as one student’s experience, not a typical timeline. Watch the video.
- Anamika Barua – University of Windsor. Anamika secured her study permit for the Master of Management – International Accounting and Finance program. Watch the reel.
- Another Canada approval (20 August 2026). We shared another Canadian visa success while keeping the student’s details private. See the post.
What stands out? Four of these stories include a spouse’s approval, and several are for master’s programs at public universities. Each case is different, and one student’s result never guarantees another’s. Still, they show what a well-planned journey can look like, from choosing a program to receiving the study permit.

What You Need Ready When You Apply
Applying now doesn’t mean applying in a rush. Here is what to get ready as you submit your applications:
- Choose the right university and program. Your program should make sense for your academic background, work experience and career goals. A visa officer will look at this closely.
- Check that your 2027 intake is available. Not every program runs in January, May and September. Confirm the intake and deadline on the institution’s website.
- Get your English score ready. Most programs ask for IELTS Academic 6.0 to 7.0 overall, depending on the level. Many also accept PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT or Duolingo.
- Prepare your finances. Plan for first-year tuition, travel and at least CAD 23,448 for living costs. Show where the money comes from, with consistent records.
- Plan for your PAL/TAL. If your program needs one, your institution will arrange it after you accept the offer. Build that time into your plan.
- Explain your study plan clearly. Your study plan or SOP should explain why this program, why Canada and how it fits your future.
- Check processing times. Look at the latest IRCC processing times and apply as soon as your documents are ready.
- Leave time to fix mistakes. Missing papers or mismatched details can delay or harm an application. Applying now leaves you time to fix them.
Which 2027 Intake Should You Target? Act Fast
- January 2027: closed. Applications for the January 2027 intake have closed. If you were hoping for January, your next options are May or September 2027.
- May 2027: closing now. May intake deadlines are closing over the next few weeks, and choices are limited. For example, UBC Okanagan’s Master of Management for May 2027 closes on 15 December 2026, as shared on our Facebook page. If you want a May start, contact us this week.
- September 2027: open now. This is the main intake, with the widest choice of programs and scholarships. Applications are open, and early deadlines start from January 2027. Apply now to get the best choice of seats and scholarships.
How to Prepare a Stronger Study Permit Application
A visa officer looks at your whole file, not one document. These points matter most:
- Program fit: Your chosen program should follow logically from your education or work history.
- Financial evidence: Funds should be enough, available and clearly explained, including the source.
- Accurate documents: Names, dates and figures must match across every form and certificate.
- Academic history: Explain any study gaps or changes of field honestly.
- Current rules: Follow the latest IRCC checklist, including PAL/TAL, biometrics and medical requirements where they apply.
No single factor guarantees approval. A strong application is one where every part supports the same, believable story.
Common Mistakes Bangladeshi Students Should Avoid
- Rushing the application to meet a deadline, with missing or weak documents.
- Choosing an unsuitable program only because it is cheaper or has an open seat.
- Weak financial documents, such as large unexplained deposits or funds that don’t match the sponsor’s income.
- Inconsistent information between your application, SOP and supporting documents.
- Believing unverified visa claims, such as “100% visa guarantee” or “Canada is giving visas to everyone”.
